Fuera o no la intención original de Olympus, lo cierto es que el diseño clásico de sus dos primeras cámaras Micro cuatro Tercios (E-P1 y E-P2) destila cierto aire elitista. La nueva E-PL1 llega dispuesta a recuperar el concepto primigenio de este estándar, que nacía como una alternativa asequible para los indecisos entre una compacta y una réflex. Más completa que sus hermanas mayores en algunos puntos y más débil en muchos otros, tras pasar unos días con esta nueva Pen llega el momento de echar un vistazo a los primeros resultados obtenidos.

CP+ 2010: Ricoh has exhibited prototypes of its A12 and P10 lens modules for the GXR system at the CP+ photographic trade show. According to the show report by Japanese website DC Watch, the company has also shown mock-ups of future modules, where lenses can be detached from the camera body to mount third-party lenses and bellows from manufacturers such as Hasselblad and Leica.

The UK Policing and Crime Minister has reasserted that anti-terrorism should not be used to stop photographers and photojournalists. In a meeting with a Parliamentary photography group and journalists, David Hanson MP said the Sections 44 and 58A of the 2000 Terrorist Act should not be 'used to stop ordinary people taking photos or to curtail legitimate journalistic activity'. He also said guidance to that effect has been provided to the UK police forces, advising that these powers should not be used to stop innocent members of the public, tourists and journalists.

En la incansable búsqueda de las míticas tres "b" (bueno, bonito y barato) a veces uno se topa con interesantes hallazgos. La Pentax K-x se ajusta bastante a estas coordenadas, con un rendimiento muy bueno y una relación calidad-precio difícil de igualar. Aunque su enfoque automático y el sistema de estabilización la alejan de la perfección -si es que existe tal cosa-, es imposible no recomendar esta réflex de 12 megapíxeles que lo tiene casi todo y que puede encontrase por menos de 500 euros. Y si de lo que se trata es de no pasar desapercibidos, encima está disponible en una docena de colores.

Five years after announcing its development, and following a month-long online campaign trailing the launch, Pentax has finally unveiled its much anticipated 645D medium format digital camera. The first digital version of the company's 645 medium format camera system, it features a 40MP, 44 x 33 CCD sensor, 921k dot 3.0" LCD and is compatible with the existing 645 system lenses. The camera will initially be available only in the Japanese market at a suggested retail price of ¥850,000 (~ US $9,400) from May 2010.

In conjunction with its announcement of the 645D medium format camera, Pentax has announced the smc D FA 645 55mm F2.8 AL[IF] SDM AW lens. First in the D FA 645 lens series, this weather-resistant prime lens features a Supersonic Direct-drive Motor (SDM) autofocus drive and Quick-Shift for instant AF/MF switching. It is also the company's first 645 system lens to incorporates a rounded diaphragm.The 55mm lens will be available alongside the 645D camera at a suggested retail price of ¥100,000 (~ US $1,100).

Es éste un buen momento para repasar el estado actual de este catálogo y para ver en qué punto del camino de la -según algunos- inevitable desaparición de las SLR nos encontramos.

Sin fecha prevista aún para su lanzamiento, Tamron acaba de poner sobre la mesa una nueva versión de su popular zoom de 70-300 milímetros y f4-5.6. Diseñado para cámaras réflex de formato completo (o con sensor APS-C, aplicando el correspondiente factor de multiplicación focal), la firma implementará en este modelo el sistema de estabilización óptica VC, que poco a poco se va dejando ver en su catálogo de objetivos intercambiables.

Alain de Botton wrote…..”Portraits can reveal sides of yourself that you are unused to seeing, over which you haven’t extended ownership….they can pick up on features that you don’t identify with and made no claim over….aspects of yourself that you don’t recognize and haven’t yet made friends with. Your character can be read from different angles, in different lights, through different lenses, through different lovers.”

It could explain why I can take a portrait of someone and think they look beautiful whilst they wrinkle up their nose and say it looks nothing like them. It could also explain some of my feelings about these photographs.

When I began this series it was simply an exploration of pinhole photography, something I hadn’t tried before. I soon found myself seduced by the saturated colours and the painterly qualities that pinholes could produce, all the time turning the camera on myself as  I was reluctant to ask someone else to give the amount of time that these pictures require. Obviously not being able to see through the lens, I couldn’t compose these long exposures so never really knew what I was going to get and there are many, many more failures than successes, especially as I am deliberately moving slightly during the exposure, to express a feeling of time and motion. And though I find it interesting how unfamiliar the images are to me, they are a “me” I don’t know…  it’s the colour, the abstractness and sense of passing time that keeps me making more.

Vicky Slater resides in Salisbury, Southern England with her husband and three children. She is passionate about photography, using mainly vintage film cameras and natural light. Whilst she loves all methods from pinholes to polaroids and digital to darkroom, she always finds herself returning to colour film and a medium format camera. Vicky is interested in the passing of time, memory, simple beauty and honesty, and has a headful of projects that she wishes to pursue, given the opportunity. She has had one solo portrait exhibition and contributed to many others. Her work has been published in various books and magazines, is part of many private collections, and has been merited with Fujifilm distinctions awards.

I often see people taking pictures at sunset. After all, I'm often right there with them, doing the same thing. As the evening progresses though, most everyone else leaves by the time the sun goes down. But with plenty of great images to be made as the light continues to fade, they're missing out on perhaps the best part. Welcome to the "twilight zone."....
