El mismo angular de 26 milímetros que sus predecesoras, pero con una focal larga que se extiende ahora hasta nada menos que 676 milímetros. Ésta es la reforzada fórmula que propone Olympus con su nueva SP-590 Ultra Zoom, la primera compacta del mercado que se atreve con un zoom óptico de 26x. La estabilización mecánica, los controles manuales y la grabación en formato RAW siguen siendo los pilares de este modelo de 12 megapíxeles.

Nueva vuelta de tuerca de Olympus a su familia de compactas más resistentes, que llegan dispuestas a dar el relevo a cámaras como la µ 1050 SW. Dotadas de un objetivo estabilizado de 28-112 milímetros y sensores de 12 y 10 megapíxeles, respectivamente, las nuevas µ Tough-8000 y µ Tough-6000 aspiran a ser la nueva referencia en el escaparate de compactas todoterreno de Olympus.

Diseño, color y objetivos con un zoom de hasta 10 aumentos conforman el renovado escaparate de la conocida y estilizada saga µ de Olympus. De hecho, el zoom de 28-280 milímetros de la µ 9000 es el principal protagonista de este trío, que se completa con las también nuevas µ 7000 y µ 5000. Dotadas todas ellas de un sensor de 12 megapíxeles, estas últimas lucen un zoom óptico de 7 y 5 aumentos, respectivamente.

Tampoco la gama más sencilla de compactas de Olympus se ha escapado del proceso de renovación con el que la firma acaba de celebrar la llegada del nuevo año y la inminente apertura del salón CES en Las Vegas.

Apple today has announced the latest iteration of its 17 inch MacBook Pro. It features a 1920 x 1280 pixel, LED-backlit display that comes in both standard glossy and optional, extra-cost anti-glare versions. The new laptop's enclosure uses the same extruded aluminum design as the 15 inch MacBook Pro and MacBook released in the fall, includes a non-removable battery with a charge life specified to be up to eight hours, plus three USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 800 port (the FireWire 400 port of the previous generation is gone), Mini DisplayPort, ExpressCard 34 slot and CD/DVD-writing SuperDrive. The new 17 inch MacBook Pro will accept and recognize up to 8GB of RAM.

During this morning's keynote presentation at Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Schiller, unveiled a new release of the company's iLife suite, iLife '09. Among the changes he highlighted were much-improved handling of audio, finer video editing controls and software image stabilization in iMovie '09 plus face detection and geotagging features in iPhoto '09.

SeeFile Software today is rolling out v4.6 of its namesake digital asset management product for Mac, as well as taking the wraps off a new web-hosted version. Version 4.6 of SeeFile incorporates several changes, including a user interface that's promised to be both more intuitive and more compatible with current web browsers, an automated notifications feature, improved administrative controls and broadened file type support.

It has been 50 years since Canon introduced its first single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, and in that time it has shipped over 53 million units, says a Canon USA press release. The first SLR model from Canon, the Canonflex, was launched in May 1959.

The ThinkPad W700ds, a dual-screen version of Lenovo's performance laptop that was officially announced yesterday, is now available for ordering on the Lenovo website. The secondary 10.6 inch, 768 x 1280 pixel screen, adds US$420 to the price of the machine.

Ni una semana ha dejado pasar Pentax desde el inicio de este 2009 para comenzar a renovar su catálogo de compactas. Las nuevas Optio P70 y E70 se convierten así en dos de los primeros lanzamientos del año, con la vista ya puesta en la feria CES. El fino diseño de la P70, su angular de menos de 28 milímetros y la grabación de vídeos en alta definición son los datos más destacados de esta compacta de 12 megapíxeles, que llega acompañada de la sencilla Optio E70.

Pentax has released the Optio E70 digital compact camera. This 10 megapixel camera features a simple to use interface with large buttons. Continuing the simplicity theme, it also includes Pentax's 'Green' shooting mode, where the camera takes control of all the key shooting settings. Although the camera promises simplicity, it is packed with features such as Triple Anti-Shake Protection, Super-Fast Face Detection and 7 shooting modes.

Pentax has also launched the Optio P70 digital compact camera. Sporting a 12 megapixel image sensor, 2.7" LCD and 4x optical zoom that starts at 28mm equivalent. It also features Triple Anti-Shake protection (digital image stabalisation), advanced face detection of up to 32 faces and HD video recording. There's also an interesting Vertical Snap Mode whereby all icons on the LCD automatically rotate vertically for easier operation of the camera in a portrait mode.

Kodak has announced the Z980 mega-zoom digital camera. This 12 MP camera sports a 26mm wide angle lens with 24x zoom, a detachable vertical grip with shutter release and is capable of HD recording. Kodak has also announced the addition of three new models to its EasyShare M series. The M380 features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 2.7" LCD and 5x optical zoom. The 10MP M340 and the 9MP M320 feature 2.7" LCDs and 3x optical zoom.
